Switchglass has recently taken delivery of its new Glass Laminating machinery and, today, we are proud to announce that it is fully operational.

Here is a simplified overview of how it works:

The laminating Heat-Box is essentially an oven. Glass panels, separated with adhesive interlayers (the laminates), are placed in special vacuum bags. These sealed packages are placed into the oven on a trolley. The oven’s temperature is raised to the required degree and then held for a set period of time at this temperature under constant vacuum. The purpose of this combination of vacuum and heat is to create pressure on all sides as the interlayers soften between the glass layers, squeezing out any air bubbles and creating a strong bond. All this is carried out in a clinical, dust-free environment.

This purpose-built plant enables us to provide our clients with greater production capacity, a wider range of Switchable Privacy and Custom Glass product, and quicker turnaround and delivery times. While we will continue to retail our range of products nationally and globally, in keeping with this year’s expansion program it is our intention to wholesale to the glass trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region as well.
